Nov. 14, 2008

A woman dies every 30 minutes in Pakistan due to pregnancy related complications and 95 percent of these deaths are preventable, said Dr. Hulki Uz, Acting Representative of UNFPA said at a ceremony held in connection with launching of UNFPA's global publication "The State of World Population" 2008 which called for culturally sensitive approaches to development, to promote human rights in general, and women's rights in particular.

The ceremony in Islamabad coincided with the global launch of the report in London on November 12.

This year's report titled `Reaching Common Ground: Culture, Gender and Human Rights' focuses on cultural sensitivity declaring it a critical factor to achieve development strategies.
